The MHA Hip & Knee Program has received much praise from peers and patients since it started in 2006. It has been commended for excellent wait times compared with both the provincial averages and targets and it has been praised for patient satisfaction. For instance, the first 150 hip and knee patients were interviewed at two and then at six weeks after surgery. They were questioned about pain, mobility and overall satisfaction with the experience. More than 90 % of patients reported an "excellent" experience.
Mike Mazza, Middlesex Hospital Alliance CEO, says that Hips & Knees is an increasingly important program at the MHA:
"A community hospital such as Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital has the capacity to provide just this sort of program successfully and efficiently. Patients can be referred for Total Joint Replacement surgery here - close to home - instead of having to travel to more distant hospitals."
A referral from your physician is required to book a consultation.
Patient Guides:
Below are two Patient Guides - one for Hip Replacement Surgery and one for Knee Replacement Surgery that offer patients important information on topics such as: Pre-Admission, Assistive Equipment, Preparing your Home, What to Expect After Surgery, and Post Operative Exercise Instructions.
