A specialized intensive care/coronary care unit is available for patients requiring close observation and monitoring following heart attacks, trauma or major surgery. It can provide arterial monitoring, temporary pacemaker and thrombolytic therapy, caring for a variety of medical problems and acutely ill post-operative patients. Specialty care for these patients is provided by two internists who both have full-time practices in Strathroy.
At Strathroy, a 29 bed acute adult medical unit offers primary patient diagnosis, including cardiovascular, respiratory and diabetes.

Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital provides a range of in-patient and day surgery, including general abdominal, urology, orthopedic, obstetric deliveries, gynecology, otolaryngology, ophthalmology and some operative dental procedures. The hospital does not do any invasive cardiac investigations or cardiac surgery. Patients requiring further assessment and surgery in these areas as well as surgery on the central nervous system and major vascular surgery are referred to the appropriate tertiary care centres.
At Four Counties Health Services, general and day surgery is available twice per month for procedures that include minor dental surgery.
Emergency departments at both Four Counties Health Services (FCHS) and Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital (SMGH) are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by family physicians/general practitioners and emergentologists. On-call coverage is also provided by surgeons and anesthetists. The department's registered nurses have acquired additional skills and are certified in advanced cardiac life support, trauma care and physical assessments.
