PART TIME COMMUNICATION ASSISTANT

Reporting to the Office of the President and Chief Executive Officer, the Communication Assistant is responsible for collecting and collating information to promote positive media coverage, both internal and external consistent with the MHA’s branding guidelines. The successful candidate will have proven success in digital and written communications including newsletters, web sites and media releases. Their achievements demonstrate excellence in building relationships with various stakeholders, critical thinking, customer focus and an artistic flare and enjoyment of people which results in a successful communication flow for our hospitals.

Qualifications:
• Two to three years of experience in the digital and print environment of publishing newsletters, website management, Microsoft office suite, WordPress and media correspondence
• Accredited College diploma or University degree with major in English or Communications
• Proficient in the English language
• Strong problem solving, negotiation and critical thinking skills
• Exceptional organization and planning skills
• Knowledge and understanding of the internet, computer software, search engines, graphic design, page layouts, web site layouts and photography
• Knowledge of social media

Responsibilities:
• Formal and informal information gathering with Board of Directors, senior management team, managers, physicians, staff, volunteers, patients, visitors, auxiliary, foundations about new initiatives, strategic directions, upcoming events, business outcomes, achievements and recognition
• Creating electronic and printed material for internal and external communication such as InFocus staff newsletter, physician newsletter, internal and external web site, media releases, brochures, events, video and social networks
• Development of work plan, scheduled communication deliverables, identified deadlines and leveraging various communication outputs
• Role will alter between reporter, information gathering, writer, editor and proof reader while understanding the pulse of the organization
• Management, ongoing development and maintenance of content for the Hospitals’ external website, ensuring relevance, accuracy, consistency and timely revision of all content
