FULL-TIME SAFETY OFFICER
One Year Term

Job Duties
• Position available immediately

Main Responsibilities include:

• Responsible for identification and notification of general safety hazards, assessing risk, interpreting legislation and providing corrective actions
• Work to ensure organizational compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Acts as the primary contact with the Ministry of Labour
• Designs, Implements, and maintains Health and Safety Policies and Programs
• Promotes safety and wellness in the workplace
• Provide training and information to a variety of groups, including orientation to new hires
• Review injury reports, and follows up to ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken. Summarizing and analyzing the data for trends and suggest appropriate course of action
• Provide consultation to leaders, teams, and the Joint Health and Safety Committees regarding safety
• Draft guidelines and bulletins regarding safety issues, and disseminates throughout the organization promoting safety
• Participates in the provincial Safety Group initiatives
• Representative on several committees

Job Qualifications
To be successful in this position you will have:

• Graduate of an Occupational Health and Safety program, or in the process of obtaining certification, required
• Minimum 4 years experience in a health and safety capacity, preferred
• Hospital experience preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Knowledge of industrial hygiene, an asset
• Demonstrated excellence in your communication, interpersonal and organization skills
• Excellence in attendance
• Demonstrated use of good body mechanics
• Valid Driver’s license as travel between sites will be required.
