Family-centred obstetrical services at SMGH provide a relaxed, flexible and home-like birth atmosphere. Back-up service for epidural anesthesia is provided as well as 24-hour on-call coverage for cesarean sections.
The birth facilities at SMGH include family-centred birthing rooms, a labour room and a whirlpool tub. There is also telemetry equipment that allows a woman in labour to walk around while being monitored. Obstetrician Dr. Robert DiCecco of St. Joseph’s Health Centre provides consultation, education and some obstetrical coverage. Additionally, a lactation consultant is available, and a public health nurse visits with new mothers before they leave.
The Family Practice Obstetrics Clinic, also known as the Mom & Baby Clinic is in the ambulatory care wing at Strathroy.
