MHA Preparing for Accreditation

(Strathroy, ON) – On October 6-11, 2013 the MHA will host two surveyors from Accreditation Canada to evaluate the quality of care and services provided by MHA.

Accreditation provides health care organizations with a voluntary, external peer review to assess the quality of their services based on standards of excellence. The last survey took place in 2010. The process allows the MHA to identify strengths and opportunities by comparing us against national best practice standards.

Accreditation Canada is the national accrediting body for health service organizations across Canada. The accreditation program is designed to assist health service providers to drive improvements in health care through self-assessment and evaluation.

The surveyor team from Accreditation Canada is comprised of Eleanor Rivoire, Vice President, Clinical Administration & Professional Practice and Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) at Kingston General Hospital and Dr. James A (Jim) Robblee MD, Chief of Cardiac Anaesthesiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.

The surveyors will be meeting with staff, physicians, volunteers, the board, partners and patients. The Accreditation survey is part of the MHA’s ongoing commitment to provide high quality patient care.

“Without question accreditation is important as it affords us the opportunity to ensure that we are reaching and exceeding performance targets amongst peer hospitals from across Canada,” stated Ken Williams, board chair.

“The accreditation process is really about celebrating our successes, as well as opportunities for improvement. I am genuinely excited about them coming in to MHA to experience our culture and witness our committed, passionate and patient centred staff, physicians and volunteers”, stated Todd Stepanuik President & CEO.

The four day process will include a review of MHA performance on 1392 applicable criteria across eight dimensions of quality. Thirteen (13) teams involving 140 team members from across the MHA are involved.
