Inpatient Medicine, ICU and Respiratory Therapy

• Flexible 7.5 hour shifts and after hour availability
• Responsible for daily operation of medical inpatient unit and ICU
• Reporting to the VP Clinical Service/CNO

Job Qualifications:
• Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Baccalaureate degree; Master’s degree preferred
• Minimum 5 – 7 years of related clinical experience
• Minimum 3 years of leadership experience within the acute care setting
• Proven leadership skills
• Visionary, strategic and systems thinker
• Ability to lead innovation and initiate and sustain quality improvements
• Demonstrated excellence in critical thinking, problem solving, communication, change management and conflict resolution
• Evidence of critical thinking and knowledge related to medicine and ICU patients
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, physicians, patients and the interdisciplinary health care team
• Experience managing and leading in a unionized environment
• Sound knowledge of and ability to utilize LEAN and quality improvement strategies
• Strong commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education
• Computer proficiency
• Excellent attendance record

• Coordination of patient care delivery and patient flow
• Ability to mentor, coach and act as resource for staff
• Performance appraisals, including ongoing regular feedback for staff
• Accountable for Medicine, ICU and Respiratory Therapy budgets
• Recruitment and retention strategies with staff
• Provide leadership for and ensure alignment with MHA strategic priorities
• Implement and manage quality improvement, lean strategies and patient safety initiatives to ensure excellence in patient care and high levels of patient satisfaction
• Participate in the management of all patient care areas in conjunction with peers
• Ensure that clinical practices are evidence based best practice and consistent with current standards and regulations
• Model and promote the development of a motivated and a cohesive multi-disciplinary team
• Support educational strategies to enhance professional practice of team members
