Job Duties

Main Responsibilities include:

The Infection Prevention and Control Specialist will work collaboratively with the team to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate infection control process within the Hospital. The role functions as a consultant, role model, investigator and educator and is responsible for recommending and establishing IPAC standards at MHA based on best practice including those generated by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Canadian Standards Association, Public Health, Center for Disease Control and other regulatory bodies. The Infection Control Practitioner will meet with all staff, students and volunteers to ensure they are adequately protected from illness and infection through TB testing and immunization. These records will be maintained electronically in the secure system Parklane and immunizations updated as required.

Job Qualifications
To be successful in this position you will have:
• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Current BCLS Certification
• Certification in Infection Control – preferred
• Minimum 2 years Infection Control Practitioner experience
• Knowledge of the Workplace Health and Safety Board Legislation
• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
• Advanced knowledge of nursing procedures, microbiology, medical terminology, and statistical concepts
• Advanced ability to be self motivated, self directed and results oriented
• Experience in a LEAN environment would be an asset
• Demonstrated evidence-based decision making, critical thinking and problem solving
• Demonstrated presentation skills with an understanding of adult learning principles coupled with superior interpersonal and communication skills

• Demonstrates MHA values and the ability to promote values of shared leadership and inter-professional team collaboration
• Ability to research leading practice and implement quality based programming and seek to exceed industry benchmarks and performance metrics
• Demonstrated computer proficiency in relevant software, internet, and literature searches
• Demonstrated working knowledge of hospital and infection control policies and procedures
• Demonstrated Excellence in communication, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
• Commitment to professional development
• Demonstrated excellence in attendance
• Self directed
• Basic computer skills in a “Windows” environment
• Working knowledge of Parklane, an asset
• Possess a valid Class G driver’s license and have own means of transportation. Incumbent should be prepared to travel between sites on a weekly basis
